A drastic change in traffic has succeeded in banning heavy traffic out of the historical centre of town. In doing so, the quality of life in this unique medieval town has been preserved to its best.

By car?

One way traffic, public transport and a speed limit of 30km/h in town, are the essential elements of this plan. The basics of this traffic plan is to stimulate the use of the ‘ring’. The town is divided in 5 loops, guiding you through the main, one way, streets, each starting and ending at the ring.
If you come by car to the restaurant 't Huidevettershuis, there are 5 subterranean car parks (3.675 places). 325 of them are in  't pandreitje'

By bus

In order to keep the quality of living in town to an acceptable level, a special scheme of traffic has been instated. Coaches are tolerated in town to drop passengers at their hotel, or pick them up. Special allowances can only be granted by the town police at Hauwersstraat, 3 (tel: +32 50 44 88 44)

On the site Katelijnebrug (map of the city: C13) free parking is provided for coaches (up to 140).
